St. George's bell tower

Welcome

Welcome to the web page of St. George the Martyr Anglican Church. We are a down-town parish church of the Diocese of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Our parish boundaries embrace the very heart of Canada's biggest and busiest city. We are bordered on the north by the large campus of the University of Toronto; on the east, by the business and financial district; on the south, by Lake Ontario; on the west, by one of the largest low-income housing projects in the country. Fashionable Queen St. West with its cafes, restaurants and boutiques runs through the heart of our neighbourhood. We border Canada's largest China-town with a myriad of shops, grocery stores and restaurants. Within our parish we find the Art Gallery of Ontario; the CBC and CITY-TV buildings (The Smashing Pumpkins and Radiohead rocked our church!); the 'official' entertainment district of Toronto; the homeless; the street-folk and runaway youths; illicit drugs; some of the best venues for live music in the country; the Ontario College of Art and Design; a large, resident multi-racial population of families, young professionals and urban dwellers; last and not least, a small, (120 families) passionate congregation committed to one another and the warmth of the community life we find together as Christians. In short, all the glories and all the ills of a big North American city are on our door-step!
